Blue Turquoise Grotto & Copper Necklace

For this necklace I used a seed bead mix called "Blue Turquoise Grotto", Czech Fire Polished beads in "Blue Turquoise" and "Carnelian", and some "Cinnamon Spice" bicones all crocheted on dark copper wire.  I also crocheted a matching pendant for this one.

I'm not real sure that this color mix makes me think of a grotto but it sure is a pretty name!

Making your own header with Picasa

I typically use a Photoshop program for graphics and what~not but often I get frustrated and have to call my SIL for help.
But not this time!
Look what I did all on my own and it only took me about 30 minutes to download the program, read the directions and make the header. I love it!
I don't like all the technical mumbo jumbo that goes along with many programs. I simply dont have the extra time to sit and read and read some more to try to figure out how to work the dang thing.
After reading THIS post over at Blissfully Domestic I decided to give Picasa a try. Her tutorial made it so easy to understand and she includes the link to the Picasa download in her post.
If you've always wanted to make your own header but never knew how then be sure to check THIS out.

Football Season

I love Texas football- being outside, cheering on the team, and of course- cute lil cheerleaders.  I have had lots of requests for 'made to match- football' bows. Here's a peek.

And my favorite so far, have been for this cutie.

It is her first year cheering on the Pee-Wee squad. I made her a Royal bow and a Streamer bow. Such an adorable rah-rah girl!

A Tie for Your Lil Guy

My nephew Luke is the cutest lil guy I know. But since he has been born, I have not been able to shower him with handmade gifts because my craftiness usually leads to me bows, tutus etc.

Afton did try to get a bow on Luke when he was about 6 months old.

So I was thrilled when I finally had an idea. Luke was being baptized and needed something special to wear. And Voila! I made him a 'lil guy tie'.

Since I also made the girls coordinating pillow case dresses, I decided to pull from that fabric for my color inspiration. The neck has velcro closure and the tie is about 10 inches long. Of course his momma styled it perfectly- gap khakis, a white button down and brown loafers.

Maybe this will inspire more 'boy creations'!

Hey Pals,

Katie and I Butchy have some products to tell you about from CSN

We received some wonderful free items to try out.  And can you believe it involves foodables for us to taste too??? hehehehe!

Ya know how Mama and Papa like to cook and we even cook outside on our fire pit.  So on Sunday morning, we decided to test out one of our new items.  Check out this cool Camp Chef cast iron grill/griddle we got:

( it is a flat griddle on one side, grill ridges on the other side )

And YES those are hooooge PANCAKES!!!  ( homemade buttermilk pancakes too! )

Are you drooling yet???

This griddle is great because it's so large.  We only put 3-4 pancakes on it at one time, but it would hold twice that many.  Cast iron is great to cook on.  If you like to camp, this is the griddle for you.  With having the grill on one side and griddle on the other, you could cook all of your food on this one pan, very convenient.  Notice the handles on each end???  They can be placed on either side of the pan.  Plus this comes with it's own storage/carrying bag.

Now for the FINAL test:  Katie and I LOVED the pancakes.  They turned out very yummy.  Mama told us she'll be using this griddle for sure when they host their fire pit pawties!

We also received two other items from the CSN store:  COOKWARE.COM

This PURPLE cast iron Le Creuset frying pan:

( leave it to Mama to find one in PURPLE, her favorite color! )

This pan makes the juiciest grilled hammmmmburgers cooked indoors when you don't want to go outside to use your gas grill.  Whatever meat you cook in this pan gets evenly seared, fat runs to the bottom of the pan instead of your meat sitting in the fat.  This pan can be used on all heat sources, and it is freezer and refrigerator safe too.  Best of all, it has a LIFETIME limited warranty.

Our other item is this pawfectly smelling Camp Chef Dutch Oven Candle:

( lid beside candle is included )

It smells great throughout the house even when it is not lit.  We picked out the APPLE COBBLER scent.  Once the candle is used up, you have this great little dutch oven to use for cooking and it's cast iron of course.

In case some of you are antique buffs and are wondering what stove the frying pan and candle are sitting on, it's Mama and Papa's antique Copper-Clad  stove, made by the Malleable Range Co. in St. Louis, MO that they bought and restored this summer.  It was in really rough shape, but it looks much better now:

Be sure to stay tuned, Katie will be posting her MODELING 101 class in a few days.

Wirey Hugs, Purrz & Licks,
Butchy, Katie, Ruby, Sylvester, Scuby & Hootie

John Mayall's sawn-off Strats

Latvis sent the above photo and comments that: "I know that John Mayall has many modified and odd shaped guitars. [In] 1990 he played this one at Kuusrock Festival here in Finland."

Indeed, John Mayall does seem to favour Strat-type guitars (in the above instance it's a Fernandes) with the body chopped down to the bare minimum. Quite why he likes such tiny-bodied guitars is anyone's guess. Perhaps it has something to do with the way he slings the guitar strap over his right shoulder?

My little Winnebago

I went to the town garage sale last Saturday and got lots of goodies and on my way out of town I remembered seeing this camper when I first got into town. During the crazy hunt for other treasures-I had forgot about it. I decided to go back by. The owner's daughter was taking down sale signs and I asked her if it was already sold. She said yes- they gave it away(can you believe that!) I was sooooooooooooo disappointed. I went to my best friend Tete's house to mope. Then I thought-I'll just go see if I can buy it off of whoever bought it. Well, luck must be with me because I was able to buy it off of him. I have yet to get it home. It needs a lot of work and two new tires to just move it. I'm not sure what year it is (I haven't got the title from the owner yet). The inside will have to be entirely gutted. But I have great plans for it!!!!!!

For those of you who don't know-I already have a pink camper(it's posted on the It's a Shabby Pink World blog) and I've over decorated it-so I'm super excited about this new project!

I'm joining for more great Whites!

Heart of the Sea

Feeling the need to put up a new header for the end of the summer season.  Already see the sun lower in the sky, shorter nights, dryer ones.  It is a gentle season before the crispness of fall, even in the south.   I took this photo two years ago in the Bahamas on Port Lucaya.    My honey and I were walking back to the hotel and of course, I was dragging my feet through the clear waters looking for any excuse to not have to leave shore.  Sun was nearly down and bright white light was shining across the length of the sandy beach edge when I came across this moon jelly laying in shallow waters.

I love the play of light from the sun through through the water giving the moon jelly the look of a transparent heart with a flash of white living light.

Life, it is beautiful.  Sea Witch

Sweet Dreams...

Remember the fancy sleep mask worn by Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly in the movie "Breakfast at Tiffany's?"

Designed as a replica from the movie, Mary Green has created this eye mask from pure silk, softly padded and edged with gold trim. Decorated with a quirky eye design, it has glitter speckled eyelids and jewel-like eyes. So cute!

I could use some "Holly Golightly-style" beauty rest for sure. If you need some too, you can purchase these adorable sleep masks here.

Sweet Dreams!

Happy 53 years Merdeka Malaysia

I just want to wish happy 53 years Merdeka Malaysia to all my reader. This year celebration held in a closed place at Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil with a motto "1Malaysia generating transformation" (1Malaysia menjana tranformasi). Many of us must remember how normally government will celebrate Merdeka (Independence) at the Dataran Merdeka in front of Sultan Abdul Samad Building. Even if no celebration will be held at that place, some of us still keep coming to that place for Merdeka countdown. Its been a long time since any Merdeka Celebration has been Celebrated at this place. Most probably because any celebration in Kuala Lumpur means traffic jam for the whole day.

Photos: The building in 1960.

To all Malaysia Banknotes collector, you maybe has seen the Sultan Abdul Samad building picture on Malaysia 500 ringgit banknote. The Sultan Abdul Samad Building is located at Jalan Raja in front of the Dataran Merdeka (the Independence Square) by Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The structure takes its name from Sultan Abdul Samad, the reigning Sultan of Selangor at the time when construction began.

Photo: The building at the reverse of Malaysia 500 ringgit note

It was designed by A.C. Norman and the construction started in 1893 and finish in 1897. At first, its house several important government departments during the British administration. A.C. Norman spent time in Africa and saw Muslim mosques in India which led him to use Moorish architecture in the building's design. In 1945, when World War II ended, Britain resumed control again, but Malaya's independence movement had matured and organized itself in an alliance under Tunku Abdul Rahman. When the British flag (union jack) was finally lowered in Kuala Lumpur's Merdeka Square in 31 August 1957, Tunku became the first prime minister of Malaya.

Photos: The building in its early days.

In front of the building is the Dataran Merdeka (or Merdeka Square). It was here, the Union Jack flag was lowered and the Malayan flag hoisted for the first time at midnight on August 31, 1957. The Dataran Merdeka was officially opened on January 1, 1990, in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 1990. The Merdeka Square symbolized British sovereignty as it was a cricket ground for the colonial administrators and fronted the Royal Selangor Club, Malaya's most exclusive whites-only club.

The building has seen many history in its days. Its even older then most of us in Malaysia. Wish Merdeka Celebration will be held again at this place in the future. "Happy Merdeka day to all Malaysian".
