Repurposed Buildings and Other Sunday Night Thoughts

Sunday, February 28, 2010

It is sunday night and we are sitting next to our fireplace watching oak logs burn as we talk about our week. We have much to do this week. Next weekend is Kane County but we are also feeling the pressure to work on the show house projects for the set up next week. So we might have to make a choice about whether we have the time to do Kane next weekend.

This week I am working on the storage cabinet, bed platform, crown above the bed all for the show house  in my shop. CJ is busy in her studio getting the many fabric projects for the showroom ready. As all of this comes together we will post pictures this week.

We are also sitting here remembering our very fine weekend spent up in northern michigan. One of the stops we made last weekend was in Frankfort , Michigan at a place called Monumental Finds. They are closed for the winter but I couldn't resist taking some pictures of this place because of the outstanding display outside the main build of repurposed building materials. We find that the owner of this business has taken repuposing to a scale larger than we are used to seeing with some really interesting results.
All the building creations (made of old building parts and pieces) are for sale and the owner will gladly help with delivery. Enjoy the pictures.

Spring At The Antique Gallery

Just several days after a record snowfall in Central Texas we are enjoying beautiful springtime weather.  It's sunny and about 65 and these irises are already blooming!   Inside The Antique Gallery it's definitely springtime so today let's take a little tour.

The talented staff at the front desk has redecorated our "inspiration" board.  Look at those yellow heels!  Just fabulous!

Grab a parasol from Eleanor's shop and lets get started.

There's Nurse Nancy in her Vintage and Shabby Too shop.  When she's not on nurse duty she's scouring the countryside to  bring more fab findings into The Antique Gallery.

The next gorgeous space is ever changing and you'll find the most beautiful painted roses on many of her items.

Jan's booth is not as full as it usually is because her wonderful painted furniture is absolutely flying out the door!  She always has gorgeous altered linens and…

The most interesting ephemera and findings.  Holy, moly! Can you see those prices??? That's for the whole jar!!!

The other Jan must be out….you guessed it!  In her garden.  She always has the best vintage signs.

Do you need anything loaded in your car yet?  Kyle is your man – catch him quick 'cause he's always on the move!

Oh my gosh – looks who's shopping for vintage dog collars in Susan's booth.  Could he be more adorable?

Take a quick peek into Gatherings Two.  I know – you could spend hours in this space alone but Stephanie is bringing more fabulousness in all the time so we'll return later!

Lastly, here's a look at The Roost.  Jeff is known for his upcycled  painted black furniture.  To see more of that plus a great collection of 50's Japanese pottery stop by their website.

And here we are back at the front desk.  Kathie, on the left, keeps The Antique Gallery running smoothly working with our wonderful customers and 100+ dealers.  And while we're here we all want to wish  Pat (right) the happiest of days.  Happy Birthday Pat!

Thank you, Kathie for letting us tour today!  We'd love to see you in person so stop in to see us!

Spring Fever...
Gypsy sisters are you having the itch to hit the road with your best girls in search of the finest treasure and the greatest loot? I feel spring in the air and it just has me "driving" to get to every estate sale, yard sale, flea market, barn sale, and junk store that I can possibly reach! The sun is shining, the grass is greening, and I have the junkin' bug! xxoo

The silver fire polished beads sparkle like stars in the night sky.

I used 6mm Gray Czech Fire Polished, 4mm Silver Fire Polished beads and Black Diamond seed beads on silver wire to create this five strand necklace.

It's hard to get a good picture in this dreary weather.  Like everyone, I'm longing for warm weather, green grass and sunshine!

~Today's Quote~

If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant; if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.

More Doll Heads

I didn't get to go antiquing last week with Linda-hopefully this week, so I took out on my own. I only came home with two things-this is one of them. It's a very large doll head-much bigger than all the rest. The dealer knew I liked heads(am I crazy) so she had her husband bring it in from home. If I can find room- it will go with all the rest. The rest of them with their winter hats.
With their spring hats.
