The New Waiting Game

Wednesday, December 31, 2008

A large number of aspiring home buyers spent 2008 on the sidelines, waiting for a declining market to bottom. Hoping to avoid the sort of boomerang or upswept tail that often marks the end of commodities corrections.

Perhaps unexpectedly, the wait for the pricing nadir has been displaced by a new resolve--the wait for the rate nadir. Despite gobs of government spending and potentially inflationary outlays, rates continue to languish delectably in the low fives, stoked by the Fed's anti-hoarding, er anti-savings tactics. Might a limited time 4.5% purchase rate be in the offing as rumored? The possibility has even pusillanimous purchasers coiled like a ravenous panther.

Me, I'll probably play along, and exchange paper for a hard asset. You know, something with an inglenook, or a sleeping porch, or a whole lot of rosettes.

Hey Pals,

We sure hope the new year turns out better than the last day of 2008. That mean ugly SEIZURE MONSTER just had to rear his ugly head & bother my poor sissy Snickers.

The mean villan showed up about 4:30 this afternoon & gave Snickers 4 seizures. Poor Mama gets very upset when Snickers has seizures, but she has to hide it from Snickers. Once the seizures are over & Snickers seems ok, then the stress hits Mama big time. It's very important to keep Snickers calm while she has her seizures. How could that mean monster hurt a cute doggy like Snickers??

We're praying that no other pets or hoomans have seizures tonight!! and that everyone has a Happy & Safe New Year's Eve!

Butchy, Snickers, Ruby, Sylvester & Scuby

Pepper Steak Without Tomatoes

Pepper Steak without Tomatoes

This is an easy favorite of mine but my husband does NOT like tomatoes and all the recipes call for them diced. So this dish just doesn't go over well in our household.
However, yesterday I decided to try it without using whole or diced tomatoes and it worked!
Not to dry...not to thin....just right and a perfect baked gravy ready to be spooned over your potatoes.

3 lbs. round steak
1 onion, sliced in rings or diced
1 green bell pepper, diced
10 3/4 oz. can of tomato soup
a soup can full of water
8 oz. can tomato sauce
3 tbsp. A-1 steak sauce
1 tbsp. brown sugar
salt & pepper

Trim fat from meat and place in a greased 13X9 baking dish.
Place onions & peppers on top of meat.
In a bowl, mix the soup, water, tomato sauce, steak sauce, brown sugar, salt and pepper.
Pour mixture over meat.
Cover pan with aluminum foil and poke 4-5 small vent holes in top.
Bake on 350 degrees for 2 1/2 hours.

Their 3 Awesomely Pathetic Lives

The characters and events mentioned from now on are fictional and purely a figment of my imagination. Any resemblance to real people and real life events is totally unintentional :P

This is the story of 3 young gentlemen. They led their own lives totally unaware of the others existence for the first twenty odd years of their time in the world. Then fate intervened and they had a similar goal in life. Fate intervened again and brought them together in the same I-school. And it was fate again ..... two years down the line when they were picked up for jobs by the same large conglomerate (the-company-which-must-not-be-named). It brought them to the big metropolis of Dumbai, the city of dreams.
Now that they were working at the same place, they decided to rent out a flat (After all the-company-which-must-not-be-named did not provide them accommodation on a long term basis). But finding a place to live in the metropolis of Dumbai was not an easy task, a task made more difficult by the presence of someone else. Yet they managed, with the help of an agent whose extra-terrestrial looks were straight out of the sci-fi movies. But they had a huge falling out with the agent soon after. After being thoroughly abused by Funkaz & Niku, the agent took solace in the comforting words of Deyus.
Oops!!! I forgot to introduce our 3 heroes. So here goes
Niku: The tall fellow with already greying hair. Likes a peaceful, organized and comfortable life for himself. In reality a pretty lazy person. Hated his previous work, so is prepared for anything which the-company-which-must-not-be-named can offer. Takes pride in having amassed a big bank of useless information over the years. Before joining was told by pretty knowing people that his life was going to be hellish and tough. Reality was totally different. Work life (touch wood) has been pretty unlike described earlier.
Funkaz: The taller fellow with already receded hairline. Tries being funny and irritating at the same time with his wisecracks. Has a weird tendency of declaring every girl he sees as his "bhabhi". He had no idea what he was getting into after accepting the offer from the-company-which-must-not-be-named. Fun is something which has certainly gone missing from his life these days.
Deyus: The tallest fellow. Another store house of irrelevant and useless Data on anything and everything under the Sun. Has an unhealthy appetite for the most pathetic Hindi movies. Makes big plans which get scuttled. Orders the most exotically named dish in the menu. Deep inside him lies the desire to dance at friend's weddings. To fulfill this desire he constantly pesters the other two to get married. But so far wisely they have avoided this trap.
The 3 major issues in their lives
1. Girls (or rather the lack of girls)
2. Increasing waistlines
3. Receding Hairlines
Now coming back to their first house. It was with diffciulty that they could find a place to live. But eventually they did find an awesome place. A 14th floor creek facing penthouse. in a building named after the third tallest mountain in the world. The view is awesome and rent was quite cheap (compared to other places in the megapolis). So they moved in. Then they learned more of their surroundings. The house had a huge nallah by the side. The lifts occasionally did not work (At those times, our heroes turn into mountaineers). There was an issue with the pigeons of the area too. They (i.e. the pigeons) decided that only birds can have homes at these heights. So they regularly fly in through open windows in the mornings. A pair of owls also have their nest there. Also a huge honeycomb. Now for the people. Now there was a collector in the building too who would keep on asking whether they had paid up for the pujas (even after they had). Another resident is a pretty girl with a big dog who have a habit of terrorizing our heroes in the lift. And there are others too. Our heroes also came to know that they live adjacent to a girl's PG. One fine morning Niku woke up early, went to the balcony and looked down. And he counted over 30 females entering the bus. Some time later Deyus on returning from his work got run over by the same bunch.
Social Life
In the neighborhood, the Purani Dumbai area where they live has 5 malls & 4 multiplexes (at the last count) where our heroes spend their Sundays. So their main social activity consists of going to malls and taking in the sights and scenes the places have to offer. Occasionally they go to movies also. Last movie being "Dostana" (:P). However their lonely and pathetic existence gets brightened up by the visits from fellow I-school mates, who drop in occasionally.
Office Life
Niku: Is resigned to the fact that he has become a part of U2. Otherwise its awesome as he has got back in touch with some older mates of his.
Funkaz: Gets to hear pearls of the most beautifully phrased and pleasant sounding words in the office. An office which he has made his virtual home.
Deyus: The blue-eyed boy. Takes leaves anytime he wishes and has dealt in billions till now.
The Early Days
It seemed to Funkaz & Deyus that Niku was known to everybody in Purani Dumbai. According to them he would win any election easily if he decided to contest from the Purani Dumbai area. The admiration grew when they found that he had travelled in the legendary HH mode. But such things do not last and Niku's life also grew more and more pathetic.
The stories
This blog is too small a platform to narrate the adventures of the trio. But here are some storylines.
Funkaz felt his heart flutter and go away when he saw someone. He was about to do something very bold and brave and rash, when Niku informed him of the sad truth. Niku saw Funkaz's heart breaking and he was saddened. Life became more and more pathetic for Funkaz from then on.
Deyus found his inspiration in "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi" and decided to grow a moustache. A fact which was immediately commented upon by someone. But no progress so far.
The Current Pathetic Scenario
Internal communication takes place through Gtalk.
They discuss about the activities of Peter Petrelli and Barney Stinson (for the uninitated, the fictional characters from foreign TV series Zeroes & How I Met Your Father respectively).
Niku has begun pondering over the big issues of life, including his own existence and the meaning of life etc.... (Result of having too much time in his hands). And uses the term pathetic a bit too often to describe their lives.
Deyus is chatting and chatting and chatting and chatting..... (lives in a virtual world more than the real)
Funkaz does'nt get the time to think now. He is very busy with his work.

So this is the the sum total of the current awesomely pathetic existence of our lead trio.

P.S. This blog post was inspired by a friend's post on similar lines.

Hey Pals,

It's me silly Sylvester! I've been playing with my orange mousie that Ruby sent to us:

Do you see Butchy in the lower corner?? He has his eyes on my mousie. But he's not gonna get it.

I'm faster than you are Butchy, hehehehehe!

Well ok, maybe I'll share. You can have my mousie & I'll take my green bat!

I must tell you about the berry berry bad person in our house lately. He's supposed to keep our water hot, but he's been flooding the basement. Mama hasn't been too happy for 1 1/2 weeks either. See the bad person???

Mama & Papa had to go buy a new person & he cost a lot of money. Us furkids had to give up lots of treats for the year to buy him too. We decided that we didn't want our bath time to have ice cold water so we agreed to give up treats for warm/hot water.

I Sylvester was very scared with both people in our basement. I kept hiding under the basement stairs & wouldn't even eat my lunch. Mama felt so bad for me but since I was a wild feral cat & have only been living indoors for 2 months, I'm still scared of certain things. After 5 1/2 hours of working on the new person yesterday, Papa & cousin Dave finally had him working.

Guess what happened to the bad person???

We gave him an ice cold snow bath, hehehehehe!

Thank you all!!!

I haven't felt like doing much this week... apart from working (real job) and looking after my son who is on Hanukah holiday from kindergarten for 10 days....  The 20th anniversary of my cousin's death has affected me a lot more than I expected... more than all the other ones until now... maybe it's because it's such a huge number and I can't quite put my head around it all... I'm not sure... but the one thing I do know for sure is how all your wonderful comments have lifted my spirits... and for that I thank you... so much!!! I really appreciate it... who would have thought that when I started this blog, about a year ago.... it would have been a way for me to meet all of you wonderful people... thank you so much!!!! I'm honoured to know some of you!!!  I hope you all had a wonderful Hanukah and Xmas and wish all of you a very happy, peaceful, fruitful new year filled with only the best!!!!

So no beading to show... all my project are on hold now... between my son being home and work commitments...  there has been no time, nor energy.... but I have spent lots of quality time with my son, and as the weather here finally turned to winter, I took the opportunity to take my little monkey to the beach... I love the beach in the winter especially when the weather is a bit stormy... so armed with my new gorgeous camera and my gorgeous little monkey, we spent a morning at the beach... me taking photos... my son chasing pigeons.... we both had fun... and here are some pictures of that day!!!

Ani lo wan gow omm!!!!  (translated, I don't want to go home) my son, growing up here in Israel, doesn't speak proper English yet... he speaks Hebrish... which is exactly what it sounds... a mixture of Hebrew and English, basically whenever he misses a word in English he just substitutes it with the Hebrew for it... this makes it quite hard for people to understand him, unless they speak both languages, but it's hilarious!!!
I love these 2 photos - they just make me laugh - he's not usually a stroppy kid, quite the opposite, so his stroppy faces make me laugh! :-)

this last one  is one of how he usually looks:

I have to learn how to work the timer on the new camera so that before he turns 18 I may have a picture of the 2 of us together!!!! :-)

Wishing everyone a wonderful new year!!!! Stay warm and safe!!!

Hey Pals,

We wanted to tell you about our cool new bowls we received from Long Tail Pet Products.

They are called the DogPause Bowls:

Oh boy, a pretty red one.....

Hmmmm, I think I like the blue one best, Snickers can have the red one since we get to keep both bowls.

The DogPause Bowls help to slow down fast eaters like me Butchy! Yep, I can truly say it has worked for me. Snickers doesn't eat quite as fast as me, but it has slowed her down too.

The DogPause dog bowl works to slow down the pace of eating and aid with portion control in the following ways:
  • Divides the bowl into 4 feeding zones
  • Each feeding zone is 1/2 cup in capacity and designed to "block" the dog from putting his full snout into the bowl; this slows down eating pace as your dog needs to use his tongue for each bite
  • After your dog finishes each zone, he must re-position himself for the next zone
  • The bowl is designed to slide a little on the floor, further slowing down the dog as he needs to re-position for each bite
Here I am eating from the different sections of the bowl:

I must add that Snickers & I both have to squirm around to get into all four sections. Mama tried to time me Butchy while I was eating out of the bowl the first few times. When eating out of my old bowl, it takes me about 60 seconds to eat my food. With my new DogPause bowl, it takes about 5 minutes, no kidding!! Mama was thrilled that the new bowl made us eat slower.

The only thing she found that she did not like about the bowls, is that when we get our pumpkin & yogurt on top of our kibble for lunch time feeding, errrrr, ummmmmm, our moustaches get just covered with orange pumpkin, hehehehe! Snickers absolutely refused to let Mama post a picture of her with an orange moustache, sorry. So for wet foods, the bowls might not work as neatly for longer hair faced dogs. Shorthair breeds should have no problems eating wet foods in these bowls.

So if your dog snarfs food down in no time flat, these are the bowls for you!
To buy your new bowl, please check out their site:

Many thanks to DogPause bowls for sending us these great bowls.
